- Description
- Increasing concerns about the environmental impacts of power generation from fossil fuels have prompted the development of more sustainable means of generating power. These have included increasing the fraction of renewable and sustainable energy in the national energy supply. Historically, renewable energy sources have struggled to compete with fossil energy, due to their relatively high costs, and high technical risk. The co-firing of biomass with coal in conventional coal-fired boilers can provide a reasonably attractive option for the utilization of biomass for the generation of power, and in some cases heat.
